Les Papys de la Rumba bring to life an authentic, generous and deeply danceable Congolese rumba.
Born on the rooftop terrace of the legendary La Crèche bar, in the heart of Matonge, one of Kinshasa’s most emblematic neighborhoods, this intergenerational orchestra brings together musicians who have lived through several decades of Congo’s musical history and two young artists who embody the next generation and the transmission of this heritage.
Together, they bring the golden age of a music now inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list into the present.
The show blends great classics of Congolese rumba with original compositions from their first album. A music shaped by Afro-Cuban influences, several generations of artists and Kinshasa’s vibrant musical history.
On stage, the songs are accompanied by anecdotes, memories and stories about the great figures and defining eras of Congolese rumba. The concert becomes an experience that is at once musical, narrative and deeply human.
Above all, rumba remains what it has always been: a music of sharing and dancing. Singing, call-and-response, dancing, interaction with the audience and moments of connection turn every performance into a true collective celebration.

Today, the group is developing its organisational and touring activities, with the ambition of taking this authentic rumba beyond the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Between local stages and international opportunities, they uphold a clear vision: to restore the place of a foundational musical aesthetic within a resolutely contemporary context.
